We need you to be

Passionate

A demonstrated passion for education and working with
children.

Communication expert

Excellent communication skills and a warm and approachable personality.

Available

Consistent availability throughout each 10-week term (and ideally long-term availability, we are keen for tutors who will be with us at least a year).

Unversity student

Be at least a first-year university student with Proven subject knowledge (a high ATAR or equivalent).

What it’s like tutoring with us

Centralised locations

You teach weekly lessons (with either 1 or 2 students per
session) at a centralized location in Canberra alongside
other tutors.

Build relationships

You develop strong working relationships with your
students which many tutors miss out on when working
with larger classes.

Collaborative environment

You also have the chance to meet and work with other experienced tutors who can help and advise you as you work: it’s a great collaborative environment!

Administration

We take care of many aspects of tutoring that can add unpaid time to your schedule such as finding students, scheduling sessions, organizing billing and payments and parental support.

Up & running

We’ll set you up on our various systems and ask you to complete your information. On successful completion of your profile, we’ll get you working as soon as possible!

FAQs

Are there any hidden requirements for being a Big Improvements Tutor?

We look for tutors who are at least in their first year of university, with a strong ATAR or equivalent (certification will be required). All tutors will need to have or obtain an up to date WWVP / WWCC (Working with Children Check) or equivalent before starting work.

What age of students will I be tutoring as a Big Improvements Tutor?

At Big Improvements we generally tutor primary school students (K-6). However we do have some secondary school students so it is important to please let us know what Year Level you can teach up to in your application with regards to high school.

When will I be notified about the outcome of my application?

We aim to respond to all applicants within a week. However, depending on the time of year or volume of applications this can sometimes take longer.

How will I be notified about the status of my application?

You will receive an email notifying you of our decision once your application has been reviewed. If it’s been longer than a month and you haven’t heard from us, double check your spam folder to make sure our email isn’t there.

How do I appy?

In the cover letter tell us:

– Why you want to tutor with BIT and any relevant experience.
– Your ATAR/equivalent.
– The level you can tutor Maths and English to (we mainly tutor primary school students, but we do have some high school students).
– Your availability throughout the week and your long-term availability.
– The locations you are willing to work at throughout the week..
